Check the back, neckline and sides first
A backless bra avoids a traditional back band, but that does not mean its front is invisible under every dress. Check how low the neckline falls and how open the armholes and sides are. Cups or the centre area may show under a very deep V or wide cutout.
Try the underlayer with the actual dress, not a similar top. Look from the front, back and sides, then sit, walk and raise your arms. Check both visibility and whether the fit remains comfortable and stable.
